Shipping and Receiving Specialist

Rediscovered Books is known for its outstanding literary events, knowledgeable staff, broad selection of books and for deep ties to the community including local schools and nonprofit organizations.  Our business is committed to creating a haven for all readers and supporting the literary community in the Treasure Valley.   Rediscovered Books is located in downtown Boise on 8th Street between Main and Idaho.

As a shipping and receiving specialist, you will work in inventory management receiving both book and gift items, and on publisher returns.  In addition, you will spend some time on the retail store floor to help customers find and purchase great books, share information about our programs and events with customers, manage store sections, and make buying recommendations.  Rediscovered is a small, creative, and innovative place to work and if you’re committed to books and bookselling, we want to talk to you.

Ideal candidates will have/be

  • A passion for talking with people about books, and a proclivity for reading across genres

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent with a minimum of six (6) months of experience in shipping, and receiving,  or retail experience preferred.

  • Experience in single warehouse management, sales software, point of sales system, or any shipping/sales software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Self-directed and proactive

  • Able to lift 40 lb boxes of books

  • Able to work nights and weekends (Rediscovered Books is open 7 days a week)

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to deal effectively with stress caused by workload and time deadlines.  

  • Must be able to perform moderate lifting on a regular basis and heavy lifting on occasion.

  • Ability to stand, bend, lift and walk for extended periods of time

In addition, these qualifications are preferred but not required:

  • Previous bookselling or retail experience

  • Commitment to a long-term career in bookselling

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree

Specific requirements

  • Receive and track shipments for the company, maintains accurate receiving and shipping log.

  • Match invoices and packing verification for delivery to appropriate department.

  • Verify and assure accurate delivery orders for the company store, checks merchandise for damage matches paperwork for accuracy.  

  • Responsible for correct Point Of Sale (POS) data-entry of merchandise for the company store.

  • Responsible for adherence to manufacturer return policies and return procedures for Rediscovered Books returns..

  • Maintain a clean and organized shipping/receiving and storage area.

  • Filing

  • Box and ship books for return to vendor/customers

  • Assist with Bookstore inventory process

  • Light cleaning duties to maintain Bookstore
