After 15 years as an engineer I decided to spend time with my true passion: books. It is great having a job where every day people come in and want to tell me about what they are reading and find out what I recommend. I read extensively in science fiction and fantasy, manga, history, mystery and cookbooks, with a smattering in other areas. Read Bruce's Recomendations.

Howdy everybody, my name's Whitney, and I'm a book-aholic. I feel most at home in the literature section, where I often find myself immersed in the lives of awkward and unlucky characters. Some of my favorite authors include Adam Rex, Daniel Handler (AKA Lemony Snickett), Christopher Moore, Shaun Tan, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Steve Toltz. Read Whitney'sRecomendations.

After 35 years of teaching high school English (25 of them at Boise High School), I retired and started a book club and my first reading journal. Six years later, I'm in the middle of my third journal. I spent four of my retirement years teaching future English teachers at BSU. I'm also a writer, having been in the same writing group for 26 years. Last year I completed a novel of speculative fiction. Besides books and writing, my passions include traveling (especially internationally) and gardening. My reading journals testify that I read literature, historical fiction, classics, nonfiction, short stories, poetry, science fiction, young adult, biographies, and mysteries.
