Boise Comic Arts Festival - Zoo Boise
Boise Comic Arts Festival is turning 10 and roaring back to life! After two years of virtual and hybrid events, we’re thrilled to return to a full-scale, in-person extravaganza celebrating comics and fandom, with all the features you know and love (Artists’ Alley, cosplay, panels, performances, and workshops) at new and exciting venues, including Zoo Boise! We’re also adding a third day to the event focused on programming for librarians and educators. BCAF X is a fun, FREE, family-friendly celebration of comics and fandom hosted by Boise Public Library.
Friday, September 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Librarians & Educators Day at the Idaho State Museum, (610 Julia Davis Dr). View the schedule and course information.
Saturday, September 17 from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. (last Zoo admission is 5 p.m.)- BCAF X at Zoo Boise, (355 Julia Davis Dr). Events will include cosplay competitions, presentations, performances, and an outdoor Artists' Alley with creators, vendors, and exhibitors spread out over the 17 acres of Zoo Boise. Additionally, we’ll have some activities in Julia Davis Park just outside the entrance to Zoo Boise.
All BCAF events are free to attend, but registration is required to enter Zoo Boise for the festival on Saturday. To reserve your spot, please register on Eventbrite.
Sunday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. - BCAF X at Boise Public Library, (715 S. Capitol Blvd) and the Idaho State Museum, (610 Julia Davis Dr). Events will include panels, workshops, and gaming.
Creators, Vendors, and Exhibitors
This year we will be hosting an outdoor Artists' Alley on Saturday, September 17 with creators, vendors, and exhibitors spread out over the 17 acres of Zoo Boise. View the list of our guest creators, and stay tuned for more information coming soon about this year’s exhibitors and vendors!
Comic Creation Contest
The Original Comic Creation Contest is your chance to show-off your comic crafting skills by creating a single page of comics to express an idea, set a scene or mood, introduce a character, or tell a story. The contest is open to all ages and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places prizes will be awarded in each age category. This year we’re partnering with Zoo Boise to offer an additional opt-in prize category for comics focused on wildlife conservation.
Contest submissions accompanied by a completed entry form can be turned in at any Boise Public Library location. Entry forms are available at all Library locations or can be downloaded and printed. The contest ends August 31.
The Cosplay Contests are your chance to show off your costume making skills and creativity. Your costume could win you fame, glory, and of course – prizes. We'll have live Cosplay Contests for kids, teens and adults!
Cosplay contests will take place at the Main Stage at Zoo Boise on Saturday, September 17. The contests will take place at the following times:
11 a.m. - Teen Cosplay Contest
1 p.m. - Adult Cosplay Contest
3 p.m. - Kid Cosplay Contest
In-person tabletop roleplaying games are coming back for BCAF X! Bring your friends or make some new ones as you have an adventure and tell a story together! Session registration will open on September 6.
Board Game Swap
Trade your game for something new to you!
Games in good condition will be taken at all Library locations starting Tuesday, September 6 through Friday, September 16. Tickets for getting a new game will be emailed to anyone who turns in a game. Games will be evaluated on a tier system as well as for completeness of pieces. While you may turn in more than three games, you will only receive a maximum of three tickets to swap for games at the event.
