About the Authors

Matt Clark was born in Boise and has lived and hiked in Idaho his entire life. His comfort in and love of nature was passed down from his dad who was an avid outdoorsman. Matt’s family dogs, Duke, Buck, and Sadie were constant companions and adventure buddies. Matt became an organizer and hike leader of the Boise Trail Heads hiking group to share his passion for nature with others and help them learn trail etiquette and safety. Matt also volunteered as a crew lead and marketing coordinator for the Idaho Trails Association. He works in natural resource management when he isn’t outside enjoying Idaho’s beauty. His happy place is on a trail with Diana and their dogs.

Diana Burrell grew up in the mountains of Montana. Her earliest memories involve the smell of pine trees and exploring the forest with Jaffey and Susie, her family dogs. Decades later she found herself on the east coast then in Texas where public lands are scarce. That was not a good fit for this mountain girl. Diana moved to the Treasure Valley in 2009 to be closer to nature and immediately fell in love with the diverse landscapes. She joined the Idaho Trails Association board and was honored to serve as president. She feels fortunate to be able to channel her passion for wild places into a career in conservation. Her happy place is on a trail with Matt and their dogs.
