Meet the Bookseller - Victoria Garcia - Awesome Bookseller and Constant Surprise

Describe what you do at RD books in 6 words.

Sell books. Constantly talks about ACOTAR. (ILY RHSYAAANNDDD)

What was the last book you read that you loved?

Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. Although it made me sob (fetal position sobbing), it was the most magical read thus far; like an adult fairy tale. It left me speechless and gave me an existential crisis (in a good way)! Beautiful story!!!

What was a book you read on a recommendation from someone else that you wouldn’t have picked up otherwise?

An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten. Mystery/suspense novels aren’t really my thing– I love a good thrill (hence why I am an avid horror reader), but murder just intimidates the crap out of me. This little book (literally) was so hard to put down, though. The dark humor was just impeccable. Maud is one of my all-time favorite villains!

Favorite reading spot?

My bed with my glow child.

Book you re-read every year?

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series by Alvin Schwartz or the Deadman Wonderland manga series!

Favorite part about working at the store?

My favorite part about working at the store is working with the most badass people I have ever met and constantly fangirling with customers whenever we talk about the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas.

Do you have any good author stories?

YESSS! So I was working on a Saturday, and this man came up to me with a copy of “Dinosaurs on Kitty Island,” asking me if he could sign it. I was a bit dumbfounded until I realized it was Michael freaking Slack (the author, obviously)!! He was just passing by and decided to stop by our bookstore! SO freaking cool!!!

How did you come to Rediscovered Books?

I was browsing through their website and saw that they were hiring. So, I applied just for fun because I didn’t think I would get hired. Well, I got hired, and it’s been an adventure ever since!! NOTE: I HIGHLY recommend working here.

What is something unique to you that you would like to know?

Aside from being a bookseller and an avid reader, I am also an artist. I love making figurative abstract paintings. I have always been such a messy artist that I doubted my skills for a long time because I kept comparing myself to artists who would create beautiful and neat art. However, I discovered my love for figurative and abstract art and realized this is where I fit in!
