A Note from Rediscovered Books

Oh, how we live in interesting times!

To date, all of our booksellers are healthy, and we hope that all of you are as well.  This has been a difficult time personally and emotionally for us all and we are doing our best to maintain the things that make us who we are--empathy, communication, and support (and, of course, our love for books).

Thanks to all of you and your continued support of us, Bruce and I have been able to rehire three more of our booksellers back to help the staff that has already been here. This is both wonderful and challenging at the same time.  More people employed is great, but it also creates challenges for maintaining social distance and healthy working conditions among our staff.  As with all businesses at this time, we are doing our best to keep our staff’s health and well-being and your health and well-being at heart in the decisions that we make.

That being said, here are some of the things that we have been able to do in the past weeks:

  • Rediscovered Books Boise and Caldwell:  In addition to home delivery, curbside pick-up is now available from noon-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

  • Once and Future Books:  Office Hours 11-1 p.m. Monday through Friday for phone orders and inquiries.  All Once and Future pick-ups will be at Rediscovered Books Boise at our 8th Street door during Curbside pick up hours.

  • Rediscovered Books Boise: With more staff, we are able to process our web and phone orders more quickly and efficiently.

  • Rediscovered Books Boise and Caldwell:  With this new model of doing business, we are also taking the opportunity to develop virtual events for you all.  We have had a number of authors enthusiastically join us for our virtual events and look forward to hosting more of them.

Virtual author events are happening at Rediscovered Books through our Facebook and Instagram pages! Virtual book clubs are rolling out this week! In this time of social distancing, we want to keep open the communication with authors and books that we and you value so much.  Rather than gathering in our store space, we will gather in our homes and use the technology available to connect with great authors, great books, and continue valuable conversations.

Through this change, we are learning and developing better practices for e-commerce in this new economy and are improving how we communicate with you when your order is ready for pick up.  Currently, we are sending a text message, phone message, or email when your order is ready for pick up.

Some orders take a couple of hours to put together, others take several days depending on our staff and suppliers. Like most other industries, we have experienced many changes in our supply chain that are impacting us and other stores across the country.  We are working hard to find ways to streamline our process, and create clearer communication for you and with you. Thank you for your patience as we find our way, and we will keep getting better at this.

We hope that you are finding books at this time that engage you and keep you connected with each other.  For those of you missing our person-to-person contact with our book sellers and are looking for a book recommendation, please check out our curated lists of book seller recommendations on Bookshop.  You can either purchase the books via our webpage for pickup or delivery or order it from Bookshop to be shipped directly to you (while still supporting Rediscovered Books).

If there is a kind of event or happening that you would like us to undertake, please reach out to us.  We are open to experimenting with all kinds of events.

Your continued support of independent business is very important to our culture and economy.  The idea of #shoplocal means more now than ever and we thank you for reaching out to our store and to the many other independent businesses in our community.  We are all in this together and generosity of spirit is a key part of finding our way through and keeping our community alive and thriving.
