Outdoor Idaho - Always a good idea

As the weather begins to warm and the snow melts off the mountains in the distance, it is that time of year when my feet get itchy to once again marvel in the Idaho wilderness and enjoy the beautiful weather.  In the bookstore, I find myself gravitating towards the Idaho outdoors section planning upcoming camping trips, scoping out new places to fly fish, or a previously unexplored hiking trail.

Since moving here, I have come to appreciate the easy access to the outdoors from the Treasure Valley for all seasons.  But Spring and Fall hold a special place in my heart as the leaves come on and flowers bloom or we see the end of a wonderful outdoor season and enjoy the fall color.  And I know that I am not alone in appreciating Idaho’s amazing outdoors.  Our Idaho outdoors section of the bookshop is always bursting with books highlighting new things to see and do.

In a recent conversation with Caitlin from Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Foundation, we began plotting and planning ways to bring this amazing organization, its programming, and its love for the Idaho outdoors more into the bookstore and to our customers.  Needless to say, the possibilities are endless and we are looking forward to collaborating with SBFC to bring you Idaho outdoors focused programming later in 2022.

In the meantime, check out their link and see what they have in the works for Summer. There are several ways to participate in an outdoor adventure with SBFC this summer: maintaining and protecting wilderness trails, co-hosting a Forest Service cabin or lookout, driving shuttles, and packing in supplies for crews on extended trips. They are also always seeking volunteers for local, community projects.  You can even bring your own group to a trail work project.

The Idaho outdoors are one of our greatest assets and we, as a community, have the opportunity to protect them and improve them for future generations. Whether you want to check out a new adventure from one of the books that we have in store or want to join SBFC in their awesome summer events, make sure that you enjoy them safely and responsibly.
